Ennui (the ennui project)

Started in 1994, when singer-songwriter Dan Gober began his project. By 1997 he had grouped together some of the finest musicians in the area to create his signature sound. Luscious spacey landscapes of delayed guitars and liquid light shows. Ennui went on to become a well respected Philadelphia band, always remaining the mystery behind their complex arrangements.

Recording and releasing their debut album "Show Low" in 1998. Ennui created a big local buzz with their image and sound. Ennui formed a good area following, their highlight was opening for ween in their hometown bar John & Peters.

Taking the stage for their final performance in May of 2001. Ennui performed their final show acoustically. Ending their legacy stripped down. "I didn't want to end it hiding behind delay or flickering lights, I wanted to go out showing everyone the innocence and purity of the music", says Gober.

Recently re-grouping its founding members. Ennui is back again, with plans of a studio album to begin production spring of next year. With over a decade since its birth Ennui plans to release its best record to date.

Updates of their progress will be posted in the news section of the site.

ennui  (än-'we): a feeling of weariness and dissatisfaction
And No, I was not the first nor the last person to use "ennui" as a band name. Currently our original web domain is now the proud property of another "ennui" band. Only they have it made. All the years Gary Dann and I worked at plugging the band and posting music links throughout the World Wide Web. Well, these new boys got a pretty good deal. But what are you gonna do. We are here now, and under Lunar Face Records this will be our final home.
This was a great record for us at the time. It really brought us all together and was really just the beginning. Recorded in Mid-1998 We needed a record that could capture our live feel, and as hard as that may be. I feel at the time we came pretty close. As a songwriter and producer, it is always hard to walk away and feel it is your best work. But I must say that looking back on the catalog of works the band has done...I have written a great deal, but everyone in the band should have credits for the arrangements, as complex as they were sometimes. This was the only outside studio "ennui" was to ever go to again. Even now, Gary Dann, Buddy Sweets and myself will be producing the re-recordings of ennui. Enjoy! -Dan Gober
